About Backbone Chiropractic
Our Philosophy
At Backbone Chiropractic we focus on the alleviation of back pain, spine conditions and extremity (arms and legs) problems through hands on spinal manipulation and muscle manipulation. It is important to address both bones and muscles, since muscles move bones and are typically half of the problem in most joint complaints. Dr Batdorf uses both Nimmo and Active Release Techniques (A.R.T.) for addressing muscle problems and Diversified, Drop Table, and Activator techniques for chiropractic (bone) manipulation. Massage can also be helpful for relieving chronic trigger points and knots in muscles as well as well as for mental relaxation.
About Dr. Batdorf
Why I became a Chiropractor
I became a chiropractor because I saw the importance it played for me personally in my own health care program. In the hospital where I worked during and after college, I saw so many people in pain or with sub-optimal health. I decided that I wanted to do the oposite of sick care, which gets people just well enough then sets them off with a bag full of drugs till they need to go into the hospital again. I wanted to extend the good health, sans drugs that I got from my chiropractor to as many people as I could reach.
My Passion
My passion is treating hand problems. What marvelous things hands are and what a horrible handicap to not be able to use them because of injury, pain, or numbness. My father was a hand surgeon because he was fascinated with the function of the human hand, and I am too. As a result of continuously working with my own hands I have had to overcome many of my own hand overuse injuries. The most common hand ailment that I encounter is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). If patients have this problem and are willing to stick with a treatment program and do their exercises; they then avoid drugs, injections, or surgery.
